THE BIRTH OF THE THERAPEUTIC INTELLECTUAL

How is Knowledge Helping? How to become a therapeutic intellectual? Conversation at the University of Bayreuth with Pr Alexie Tcheuyap Professor of French and Francophone Studies at the University of Toronto, where he is also Vice-President and Vice-Provost. He has written numerous important books including “Postnationalist African Cinemas”.

To the two categories of intellectuals defined by Pr V.Y. Mudimbe: the sacerdotal intellectual that we have in the universities and that comes to us from the church, the homily of the mass where the priest comments on the gospel according to a precise tradition, then there is the prophetic intellectual that has a divine inspiration or not, Karl Marx, Freud… that comes to shake up in a very brilliant way established knowledge… and there is the therapeutic intellectual that we have created in the course of this conversation .with Alexie Tcheuyap. Fanon was the first therapeutic intellectual, Steve Biko, Fela… Cinema appeared to be a great medium for this intellectual of a new kind, who should be an intellectual of the transformation of Africa.
